Welcome
The Electric Smoothie Lab Apothecary (TESLA) educates, empowers, and employs young people impacted by the war economy how to reclaim labor and wellness – with personal sovereignty, confidence, skills, and conscious awareness of their personal power and the impact they can make on their own lives and their communities.
Electric Smoothies
We blend and distribute free, delicious, and nutritious Electric Smoothies to residents of food deserts in Oakland. Soon, we will begin selling smoothies to everyone on a sliding scale. Our crew sources locally in Berkeley-Oakland and blends in a restaurant kitchen in downtown Oakland.
New! Screen Printing
We’re so excited and grateful to announce that TESLA has acquired a screen printing shop in North Oakland, CA, formerly the site of The Grease Diner.
We offer screen printing services including custom-ordered T-shirts, sweatshirts, tote bags and other printed items, as well as classes, studio rentals, screens, and more. We are working with local, long-time screen printers who are training and leading us in fulfilling orders so you can feel good knowing that ordering from us both supports our work and that you’ll get high quality products.
We need your support!
Please consider supporting the shop upgrades and other general operations with a tax-deductible charitable donation. Or, if you have time and skills to offer, please let us know through our contact form.
TESLA acquires screen printing shop
Announcement: June 2022
The Electric Smoothie Lab Apothecary (TESLA) has acquired a local screen printing shop in North Oakland! Thanks to a generous integrated capital investment from the EFOD Fund (Equitable Food Oriented Development), and support from our fiscal sponsor, Planting Justice, we are in the process of reimagining the shop, turning it into an Intergenerational Hub for Art, Craft, Healing, and Creativity.
We will continue to produce, distribute, and sell Electric Smoothies, offer health and healing information, while also giving our youth interns an opportunity to learn the process of screen printing, collaborate with artists and makers worldwide, make money through fulfillment of print orders, manage customer relations, and develop innovative ways of producing art and other goods and services with equity, dignity, and love.
Background
TESLA educates young people who reside in food deserts about the power of health and healing through sourcing local fruits and vegetables, blending green smoothies, and distributing them to local communities free of charge. The youth get a deep overview of the circumstances that create food deserts while simultaneously learning the power of their own agency to transform their health and their communities. They learn how to source, grow, and handle food properly, practices for appropriate distribution, as well as cutting-edge nutrition education.
The Electric Smoothies will continue to be available free of charge to residents of food deserts while being offered on a sliding scale to local businesses, corporations, residents, and supporters. We will also be producing T-shirts, tote bags, posters, and other printed materials available by custom order and for sale, and we’ll host classes, studio rental, events, and collaborations.

When we open, our space will offer:
- Weekly selection of Electric Smoothies offered on a sliding scale
